Chapter Nine

Being with Casey was as easy as breathing. Everything about the man either fascinated or turned Arizona on. Even the man’s response in the library had made Arizona hard. Fear and anger had driven him, but Arizona would sooner harm himself than his mate. The thought of Casey being in harm’s way had nearly given Arizona a heart attack.

The demon realm was amazing. No two ways about it. Arizona had fallen in love with the place on sight. He’d been there many times, and although the realm was exciting and beautiful, Serenity City was also wrought with criminals, violence, and men who wouldn’t bat an eye at killing Casey just for the thrill.

Warmth and Casey’s unique scent enveloped him as he curled around his mate’s slim body. After Casey had fallen asleep in the library, Arizona had carried his mate to one of the guest bedrooms.

He almost hated to get up but knew his mate would be starving. He’d gone to Casey’s early yesterday, and the man hadn’t eaten while they’d been together.

They’d burned a lot of calories last night—a few bouts of sex tended to do that. The images of Casey’s naked body, the small, whimpering noises he’d made, and the way his mate had completely given himself over time and again rolled through Arizona’s mind.

He inhaled Casey’s scent again, wanting to wake the man for another rigorous round. The thought was tempting, but Arizona let him sleep. Casey needed time to recoup.

Lifting an arm, he watched as Casey grumbled, turned over, and burrowed himself under Arizona’s body before he lowered his arm to rest over his mate. His palm rested over Casey’s chest, and he felt the man’s heartbeat.

The rhythm soothed Arizona in ways nothing else ever had. His mate was safe, in his arms, and he planned on keeping it that way.

There was still the question of why the brawl had taken place to begin with, but he’d get the answer later. Right now he luxuriated in the feel of Casey silky skin, even breathing, and the scent of peaches that clung to the human.

A light knock sounded on the door, shattering Arizona’s peaceful moment. He extracted himself, careful not to jostle Casey and wake the man, then tossed his boxers on before answering the door.

George stood on the other side, his cheekbones slightly flushed. He held a tray in his hands. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything, but I made breakfast and saved you and your mate something before those pigs scarfed everything down.”

There was no heat behind George’s words. In fact, the man had spoken with fondness in his voice. Arizona relieved the cowboy of his burden. “I was just thinking about getting up and making Casey something to eat. Appreciate you thought of us.”

George was bossy and put up a good fluff, but everyone knew the guy was kindhearted, nurturing by nature.

“Not a big deal.” George waved off his thanks. “If you two are still honeymooning at lunch, I’ll bring you both a bite to eat.
